Calculation of GATE 2014 Score
Calculation of Normalized Marks for CE, CS, EC, EE and ME papersIn 2014, examination for CE, CS, EC, EE and ME papers is being held in multi-sessions. Hence, for these papers, a suitable normalization is applied to take into account any variation in the difficulty levels of the question papers across different sessions. The normalization is done based on the fundamental assumption that "in all multi-session GATE papers, the distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the sessions". This assumption is justified since the number of candidates appearing in multi-session papers in GATE 2014 is large and the procedure of allocation of session to candidates is random. Further it is also ensured that for the same multi-session paper, the number of candidates allotted in each session is of the same order of magnitude.
Based on the above, and considering various normalization methods, the committee arrived at the following formula for calculating the normalized marks, for CE, CS, EC, EE and ME papers.
Calculation of GATE Score for all papers
After the declaration of the results, GATE Score Cards will be issued (mailed to the Correspondence address given in the application) to (a) All SC/ST/PwD candidates whose marks are greater than or equal to the qualifying mark of SC/ST/PwD candidates in their respective papers, and (b) All other candidates whose marks are greater than or equal to the qualifying mark of OBC (NCL) candidates in their respective papers. There is no provision for the issue of additional GATE Score Cards.
The GATE 2014 Committee has the authority to decide the qualifying mark/score for each GATE paper. In case any claim or dispute arises in respect of GATE 2014, it is hereby made absolutely clear that the Courts and Tribunals in Kolkata and Kolkata alone shall have the exclusive jurisdiction to entertain and settle any such dispute or claim.

The recently declared results for the Graduate Aptitude Test in
Engineering (GATE) 2014 have disappointed many candidates as only 16.84
per cent of the appeared candidates have successfully cleared the
examination. Candidates meeting the qualifying marks criteria set by the
GATE 2014 Committee will receive their score cards and results through
mail. From the 1, 49,694 candidates qualifying the exam, 85,063 are from
General category, 42,287 are from OBC (NCL), 17,085 from SC, 4,224 from
ST and 1,035 Persons with Disability. Only 31, 431 female candidates
(from all categories) have qualified.
A total of 10,33,625 candidates had registered for the GATE 2014 examination and 8,89,156 candidates attempted the exam, 85 per cent of the registered female candidates and 86 per cent of the registered male candidates. The exams were held over three weekends between February 2, 2014 and March 2, 2014 with a total of 9 exam sessions across 660 exam centers.
The GATE 2014 exam consists of a single paper with 65 questions for a total of 100 marks. A total of 22 optional subjects were offered under GATE 2014, and the most popular papers were: Electronics and Communication Engineering (2,16,367), Mechanical Engineering (1,85,578), Computer Science and Information Technology (1,55,190), Electrical Engineering (1,41,799) and Civil Engineering (90,872).
The 17 PSUs having signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Kharagpur will receive the GATE 2014 results. Aspirants will be required to apply individually to their desired Institute/University for admission.
